Budget
By James J. Keenan, CFP

Though waste is oftentimes deplored
suggestions never find accord.
Requests you make are all ignored.
“No budget” says the finance board.

Sure, pennies spent could save them dimes
but politics is on their minds.
Now factions draw their battle lines
while losing sight of bottom lines.

Is there a way to budgets get
from people when their minds are set
in concrete? Is there yet
a way agreement can be met?

will win the day and stop the fidgets
of those who speak debits and credits.

Be this my warning: “If you would grow.
It’s damn near impossible when you don’t know
the size and direction of your cash flow.
If you wish to reap profits then knowledge you’ll sow.

So if finance still mystifies,
and accounting ledgers burn your eyes,
and you’re just not sure who’s telling you lies,
then perhaps you would be wise
